I swear to you, this IS a nickelback song. To prove it, we called different people into the office and turned off our monitor and left on our sound and asked different staff members who they thought it was, and the most common response was: Nickelback.Kill it with FIRE! So there you have it. You have a Nickelback style, four chord, power pop song about losing love. It plays like it was made on a conveyer belt that makes string cheese, and the video is just as bad. Well, in some ways, the video is worse. Anytime a lead singer casts himself in a video where he is making out with a model, we always roll our eyes. The only time that formula worked was when Chris Issak made Wicked Game. And the only reason that video worked is we are pretty sure he banged that model in that video. This is just an emo pretty boy making out with some pretty model, and intercut with shots of them fighting, breaking up, and her eventually choosing another guy over him. We the viewer, we don’t blame her. That dude is hella lame.

The Black Keys are on fire right now. Their original sound of garage rock infused with hints of old rhythm and blues with a funky little electronic twist is just hitting peoples palates with the right combination of old school, low fidelity rock and all the catchiness of a perfectly constructed hook. They build their songs like a Frankenstein monster, adding layer and layer, piece and piece, until it is complete. And when it finally is complete, you usually end up with a song that reminds you of the rock n roll of the seventies. Music that had balls way too big for one pair of jeans. And while the Gold On The Ceiling video is great and gives us a glimpse into the touring and recording life behind the scenes with The Black Keys, it lacks the originality of the Lonely Boy video, and it lacks the catchiness of Howlin’ For You, but it is still a damn good song and a decent video from a great band.

Yeah, that’s right. ZERO stars. Not a single redeeming quality. Let us explain. A lot of us here at somanymp3s are white. We know this shouldn’t be an important factor to reviewing, or to ANYTHING really, and for the most part, it isn’t. But whenever we get some new video from a white rapper, our bosses NEVER know who to give it to so they can review it. Do they give it to the white staff, who will probably feel obligated to say “white rapper suck” and give it a bad review. Or do we give it to the black staff and let them say, basically “ white rap sucks “, but they have to wonder: will I offend EITHER race by asking them? Well, truthfully, they probably don’t think about it that much, but this time, they had EVERYONE get together to review this, and the overall feeling when the video ended was: F*ck that kid.

What can you possibly say about these two? They both knew they were both at the top of their game, and instead of just being content, they decided to join forces and work on one of the most talked about collaborations in Hip Hop of all time. Watch The Throne. You get the bravado of Jay Z, repping New York since day one. Rocking the ill East Coast swagger. And you got Kanye, an egomaniac for sure, but an undeniably brilliant one. Both outspoken. Both larger than life. Both at the top, bound only to go higher. But there were concerns about these two super stars getting together. What happens when two alpha males get into a room together. Usually egos clash and things get broken as a result. It can be a very ugly thing. And though rumors persisted throughout the recording of the record that there was squabbling going on between the two, it never blew out of proportion, and the end result was a sick little album (well, little isn’t the right word). An album that showed two huge egos could come together and pull of something spectacular. Well, we now have a video for N*ggas in Paris and, well, to sum it up, it gave us a seizure.

Have you ever imagined what life would be like if it turned into a scene from a musical? We here at somanymp3s think about stuff like that all the time, because our lives revolve around music. Music is all we know. So we imagine life busting out into a musical would be both annoying and fun at the same time. This new music video for the song Beekeepers Daughter addressed that very scenario, and plays it out in a way the makes it seem almost realistic. It ties it all up in a neat little package at the end. And the song that accompanies the video is typical All American Reject stuff. Cool, quirky verses accentuated by rocking choruses. It is pop and it is punk, in the same way blink 182 are pop and punk. It is safe and fun, but it executes nothing you haven’t seen before to some extent.
