Ciara’s semi-new “Ride” video may be sexy and a little bit raunchy, but the star herself didn’t expect all the controversy it’s been causing, and decided to address the issue herself.
It was said that BET had banned the video because of the content featured, but they denied it, saying all they did was ask the singer to edit some parts of the video, and received no response. Ciara herself had this to say to MTV News earlier in the month: “My intention is always to do something as good as I can do it, to give my best effort and I always hope that it comes out the way that I envision it. You never necessarily think, ‘Oh, this is gonna get banned.’ In my past experiences with BET, in particular, they asked me maybe to take out a few things so normally you expect that — not necessarily banned. That was the first time for me and that was definitely something that was unexpected.”

She also had this to say to Rap-Up.com in May: “I’m definitely more than willing to make an edit to make it suitable for whatever it is that would be more comfortable to the network. I am definitely aware that my video had some very sensual moments in it. However, I do know that they do play sensual videos as well.” Some controversial things involved in the video, featuring Ludacris, were the extremely tight and revealing outfits worn by the singer, along with some pretty risky dance moves. BET’s Marcy Polanco, a publicist for the network, said this to MTV News in an e-mail: “BET never banned Ciara’s video. It went through the normal process where we gave edits and we never received a response.”
Some of the parts that were suggested for editing involved Ciara’s signature grinding and hip twisting moves, that are known all too well by her fans. It’s weird though how claims from both the singer and BET contradict each other. Ciara, if you were so willing to edit your video for approval, then why didn’t you after BET asked? I’ve seen some pretty controversial videos on BET through the years, so the editing they asked for couldn’t have been too bad, right? One thing i’ll never understand is why artists push to make videos that have a chance of being banned, unless that’s exactly what they want to happen, but Ciara’s video was never banned in the first place. Why would it be anyways? It’s not like we all aren’t used to seeing artists hardly dressed and dancing around in sexual ways; it’s everywhere nowadays. This has pretty much always been the sexy image Ciara has portrayed since her start, so it’s not like the content of the video was unexpected, especially with the title ‘Ride,’ like c’mon now what did everybody really think would happen in the video? Just edit it like they ask next time and there won’t be any problems, Ciara. Whatever you do though, don’t change your image over something like this; music videos have only been getting more risky as the years go on.
