New Christina Aguilera – Nothing Promising Yet

As if drunken slutty girls needed another excuse to check their inhibitions at the club door, Christina Aguilera’s new single “Not Myself Tonight” off of her anticipated upcoming album “Bionic,” gives them one more. Three and a half years after her last full length album, Aguilera announced that her new album would drop on June 8.
Aguilera collaborated with Sia, Tricky Stewart, Polow De Don, Linda Perry, Le Tigre, Hill & Switch, and Ladytron, to name a few. Polow De Don produced the lead single “Not Myself Tonight” and it boasts promiscuous lyrics and a pounding club beat.
“The old me’s gone, I feel brand new/And if you don’t like it, f@ck you,” the lyrics pronounce. Well, it almost seems like the old Christina is back to what remember her for back in 2002 with “Stripped.”
“I was able to explore and create a fresh, sexy feel using both electronic and organic elements with subject matter ranging from playful to introspective,” said Aguilera of the new album. “I am so excited for my fans to hear the new sound. It is something I don’t think anyone will expect.”
-_- OK Christina, this is just one song, however, it is so typical of a club type of song that it really touches on every tired image we have of this type. From lyrics like “I’m kissing all the boys and the girls in the club tonight” to her moaning “yeah that feels good I needed that” to her practically turning the ending into a porno with moans, heavy breathing, and “give it to me now, don’t stop,” it seems that Christina is just going with the flow of every other talentless female pop star.
Christina may have sex appeal, but she has vocal talent that many of her female pop counterparts lack, so why is she debuting her new album with this single? She does not need to rely on lyrics that were once maybe edgy or controversial. After Britney. Ke$ha, and Gaga, trashy and racy have been overplayed. Let’s get back to the basics shall we ladies?
Perhaps the rest of the album will include more artistic collaborations from Christina. So far we haven’t seen the introspection that she describes having in her album. We know that she has been busy for the past few years doing the mommy thing, so maybe this first single blew a little dust off of Christina’s sexy side. We can allow her that, but please get it over with and get back to what you do best, making actual music.
