Coldplay’s Christmas Present
Coldplay hopes to have a present for its fans this Christmas. It won’t be free but it should be something new and exciting. The British band which first became a chart topper in the United States about 10 years ago with the release of the hit single “Yellow,” are working on a new album with producer Brian Eno, who also produced Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends.
The band is currently on tour in South America but have already made significant progress on the album. They have been working in a new studio in London (apparently a converted church) and already have a potential track listing for the album. So, while there is still plenty of work to do, this bodes well for a release date before Christmas.
Fans can expect something fresh and original from the perennial chart topper. Eno is reportedly segregating band members from each other during certain stages of production by randomly pairing them so they can tap into creative aspects that might not be reached if the band were to work in their traditional way. The end result ultimately might not be that unique but it’s sure to be good.
Coldplay has either won or been nominated for a Grammy Award for their work on each of their past 4 albums and have won 7 of the 20 awards they have been nominated for so far. Their most recent album (which Eno produced) won 3 of those Grammy Awards and became the most paid-for downloaded album of all time (though that may have since changed).
