If the rap game was like a University, Drake could be compared to one of those 12-year-old geniuses that get a full ride to Harvard. Without an official album release, he has gotten to take Masters courses from the most important Rap Professors in the world and has already collaborated with Jay-Z, Lil’ Wayne, Eminem and Kanye West.
And all this coming after his long stint on the Canadian teenage soap opera Degrassi: The Next Generation, where he played wheelchair-bound Jimmy Brooks. That’s the equivalent of the twins from The Suite Life of Zack and Cody playing in a super group with Ringo Starr and Bono.
Drake has been dubbed the next big star, but his new single “Over” seems to be just another auto-tuned track filled with some decent rhymes and a nice beat.
His quick rise to stardom has made him a household name, but he hasn’t recreated the clichéd rap wheel. Maybe we are expecting too much from Drake. He hasn’t even released a full album yet and the expectation is huge.
He is the Lebron James of rap right now. He was scouted out as a young star and touted as the next coming. So far, James has proved that he can shine under the pressure that was put on him as young teenager — a feat that most have failed at. Can Drake prove to the world that he deserves all of this attention before even releasing a full-length album?
He has the support of the biggest hip-hop stars in the world; now he has to prove that those stars know a thing or two about recognizing talent.
