As expected, Eminem’s comeback with his newest album ‘Recovery’ was a big one, with the album going platinum in only two weeks. This is a big follow up to his best selling album ‘Relapse’ last year, which went platinum in four weeks, but sold more in total.
With Relapse being last years top selling hip hop album, it looks like Recovery will be following in it’s footsteps. So far the amount of albums sold has reached 1.1 million, and with this being only the second week, there’s no telling how many more copies will be sold. Director of Urban Music at Transworld Entertainment, Violet Brown, had this to say to Rolling Stone about the rappers constant success: “With Recovery, we get the raw, smart, witty, and clever Eminem that led us to realize in 1999 that this guy is the real. Everyone was waiting for this moment to reappear and he brought it.” With all of the struggles Em’s been through, between the drug problems and family controversy, it’s obvious that his newest material would come raw, and have all the feelings that he’s been going through translated in his music. Even with his constant surprise appearances with Jay-Z, and a huge upcoming concert at Yankee Stadium with the HOV, we can all tell that Eminem is indeed coming back hard. Not only is all of this seen in his total album sales so far, and his top spots on charts across the world, but it’s also clear through all of his fans. Anyone that has liked Eminem since his debut as a rapper can tell you how much they appreciate this strong comeback into the game, and this new material has even gained tons of new fans. With collaborations with artists such as Rihanna and Pink, new listeners are seeing new sides of Em, while he still brings the same line-crossing lyrics that he always has, he adds different types of emotion to it.
There’s nothing better for a rapper, or any type of artists career for that matter, than to have fans be able to feel the emotions that inspired the music, and also in most cases, relate to it. When people know they can find someone that has gone through the same struggles, and still pulled through it, especially in the way that Eminem has with his constant success; it appeals to everyone that comes across it. And with most of his songs being popularized through the internet and radio, everyone is finding themselves hearing what Eminem has to say. The seriousness now is definitely felt more than it usually was, between the funny and disturbing lyrics the rapper has dropped over the years, compared to the lessons learned that he transfers into his type of poetry. A platinum album in two weeks can only mean positive things whether there’s still some negativity being expressed in the material. We all wish the best for you Em, and with you’re new lifestyle and increased focus on your career, things will only get better, so don’t relapse after this recovery.
