Eminem Tops Charts With Recovery

Eminem is certainly making quite a big comeback with his new album, Recovery, which has sold 741,000 copies in its first week, destroying the charts and taking the number 1 spot on the Billboard 200 albums chart.

The amount sold is the most since October 2008 when AC/DC’s album Black Ice came out selling 784,000 copies its first week out. This is nothing new to Em though, since this is his sixth straight overall number 1 debut on the charts. The only rapper with more consecutive number 1 debuts is Jay-Z, with 11, respectively. This must be more than great news for the rapper, since his comeback has been anticipated for years, and everyone knew he would reappear with some crazy material. The excellent success of his new album must have been expected, since his singles have already been topping UK charts, and his collaboration with Rihanna, Love the Way You Lie, has debuted at number 1 on the Digital Songs chart, with 338,000 downloads. Recovery’s debut beats out all of Em’s other album debuts, even with his last album Relapse debuting at number 1 in 2009 with 608,000 copies sold. If Eminem was still looking for reasons to keep his life cleaned up, this could be the final eye-opener for him. It’s more than obvious that fans have been waiting for this album, and even with his album being leaked early, they showed full support by still purchasing the album in stores. While still promoting Recovery, the hip hop star was asked how he feels about all of this, and stated: “I don’t think I’ve actually stopped to think about it. I never though that my life would amount to this. But to be able to sit back and digest it is so strange to me, because I still feel so regular. I don’t understand what people think the big deal is about me. It’s a very strange relationship that I have with fame.”

No matter how he decides to deal with it; Eminem should realize that he IS indeed a big deal. Anyone that has listened to his material over the years can definitely tell the difference in the messages behind his songs. Eminem is usually known for his brutal type of rapping, fueled by some sort of hatred, but it seems now that his life is back on track, that he’s talking about the hardships he’s went through along with growing through all of it. With a bunch of unexpected appearances with Jay-Z, including one well known appearance at Yankee Stadium coming up, Eminem’s keeping all of his fans on their toes, ready and waiting for more and more of the artist. For someone with so much fame and popularity, it’s refreshing to hear that he hasn’t let any of it get to his head, which is probably why he’s only gained more fans over the years, rather than losing them along with respect. Keep it up Eminem, we’re all happy to see you’re doing better now. Just don’t go disappearing on us again, we look forward to the crazy things you must have planned!
