First thing you will notice besides how forced, ugly, and awkward this all is will be just how terrible the song is. This woman had to have lost a bet or something, because everything about this, from the construction of the track itself to the weird, fake cowboys, is so uncomfortable for everyone involved. And her singing sounds more like a woman who is moaning and screaming during an attack, than someone who is actually making a melody. Ear rape may seem like a vicious and overly descriptive term, but trust us, it fits like a glove here.
Full Article →

So DMX leaked the first single off of his new album, The Weigh In, and there is good news and bad news about this. The good news is that the DMX you loved back in the day seems to still have his bark and his swagger. It is the kind of music you listen to before you are going to get in a fight ( not that we condone that sort of thing ) or if you need to get pumped up to work out or to have angry sex with someone you love but secretly resent. So what is the new bad news?
Full Article →

A new video for a single on an album that is two years old? That is why we love Kanye West. He truly gives zero craps about what anyone will think. He exists on his own pretenses, and seems perfectly happy doing so. Why just this week, randomly, he released another Twitter tirade, this one more based on people and their poor fashion choices, but it was still Kanye, doing what he wanted, saying what he wanted, and not caring what anyone had to say about it. And that is just what we have here. A video Kanye drops well after his brilliant “My Dark and Twisted Fantasy” album has stopped stirring up dust. Once everyone has sat down and finally moved on with their lives, Kanye reappears to remind us that he made one of the best rap albums of all time, and that he is not going to let us forget about it that easily. Little does he know we haven't. We still truly believe that album will be forever etched in the legacy of all music as one of the greatest, from beginning to end. From the production to the collaborations to the honesty of the lyrics, it was just as close to perfection as the genre gets. And now we get the Lost in the World music video, which, of course, is visually arresting and puts Kanye back on top, once again.
Full Article →

I once sat down with a very wise man and we spoke about the delicacy of music and how it can affect the soul. We spoke about how the sonic vibration that seems to echo off certain notes and chords, and are set so that they speak directly to the spirit and mid if the listener. We spoke about how good music is like good food, and without it, we would not survive. We spoke how the greatest songwriters in the world tell stories like no other. Then he brought up Soula Boy, and we both laughed and laughed and laughed. Soulja Boy is to music, what AIDS is to sex. And while we are not sure if this track is real ( we tend to think it is a joke track someone made to make fun of his Kim Kardashian song ) it is just as shitty as something Soulja Boy would do, so we are just going to assume it is really him and review it, if for no other reason than shits n giggles.
Full Article →

Alright, we will admit it, the first video we reviewed from Ed Sheeran (Drunk) we were not very kind to. It just felt so vanilla to us, and that is what we said, in as many ways as we could, in the review. Thing is, since that video dropped, he has leaked a few other tracks, including some dope collaborations with Yelawolf, that has REALLY upped our appreciation and respect for him as a musician. In other words, this is one of the few instances where we will admit we were wrong. Wow, that was hard to type. But hey, we admit we were wrong.
Full Article →

We really like Deadmau5. He has integrity and originality, and does what he wants, rarely worrying what others will think. That being said, upon first listen, we had no idea this was a Deadmau5 track. We went at it blind, and were instantly taken by its pop sensibilities and sweeping melody. Odd thing is, we found out it was Deadmau5 and for a second, we liked it less. Do not mistake us, it is not anything against Deadmau5, actually, quite the opposite. The last few tracks we have gotten from him have just swing so hard, that for a second, we were put off by just how “safe” this song sounded. But once we stopped being pretentious music asses and got over our giant egos, we realized that we like the track, regardless. And we always say we want artists to experiment with new and original sounds, so if a softer edge is the direction that Deadmau5 wants to go, so be it.
Full Article →

In honor of Mother's Day, we have decided to throw together a list of all the songs in hip hop that are about, for, or inspired by Moms. A Mother is an incredibly important aspect of a person's life, from childhood on. There is no single medicine that can compare to a Mother's love. From kissing your cuts when you fall down, to reminding you to never give up on your dream, it seems anytime we are about to slip or stumble, our Mom's are there to pick us up, dust us off, and send us back into the mix, stronger and wiser.
Full Article →

Much like with Chris Brown, we have trouble liking the music of R Kelly. Certain things are just hard for us to be expected to get past. We are supposed to be OK with him screwing underage girls? Listen, if an artist smokes weed or likes to fight, cool. If an artist likes to have sex with people his own age, cool. Hell, even if a rapper wants to act like a G and wave a pistol around in public every chance he gets, cool. What is not cool is the sex with children. We just do not understand why people would buy the album of a pedophile. That is like saying, hey Mr Pedophile, here is some more money. Nah, we think R Kelly and Chris Brown should do a song together called The Pedo and the Woman Beater. At least it would be honest.
Full Article →
