Jason Derulo seems to be a hit new artist, and he has the chart positions to prove it, being the first solo male artist to achieve consecutive #1 spots with his first two appearances on the chart, “In My Head” and “Whatcha Say”.
“It started with a dream. I share this honor with my fans and radio. Without you my music wouldn’t reach any further than the confines of my own head! This is only the beginning…”, Derulo told Billboard when asked how he felt of his accomplishment. He should be proud, especially as a young 20 year old, to have made history how he did. The Billboard Pop Songs radio airplay chart has been putting top songs on record for 17 years, which is pretty long for a male artist not to gain two consecutive number 1 spots. With all the new styles of music and artists popping up, who knows how long he will hold the record. Ten other male solo artists have gained the top spot with their first entries, but now that seems to just be old news.
Too bad Jason Derulo couldn’t top his own record right away, by having three number one songs in a row. History is always changed, so we know someone is bound to come along and wow us once again.
