Kylie Minogue – All The Lovers (Music Video Review)

5 StarsSexual, shocking, hypnotic, sensual, incredible. These words all describe Kylie Minogue’s new risqué video for “All the Lovers.”

The video starts with a “flash mob” of people running at each other in the streets of downtown Los Angeles. Very quickly the flash mob turns into a giant make out session with dozens of beautiful men and women ripping each other’s clothes off. What’s left is a bunch of people in white underwear lifting up a scantily-clad Minogue as she sings,

“All the lovers
That have gone before
They don’t compare to you
Don’t be running
Just give me a little bit more
They don’t compare
All the lovers.”

The crowd grows and grows until a mountain of half-naked people kissing envelopes the entire street corner. The mountain gets higher and higher with Minogue on top, and is reminiscent of some of the large towered groupings of Chinese kids in the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Some advice to the 2012 London Olympic planners, if you make a mountain of 1,000 people making out in their underwear we will forget all about the 2008 opening ceremonies.

The video continues with this theme showing girls and guys making out with each other, as well as girls making out with other girls and guys making out with other guys. The song matches the video style and will be perfect for certain settings like “gyms, gay clubs, and clothing stores,” according to Entertainment Weekly reviewer Adam Markovitz.

What’s more impressive is that the video was able to secure several dozen ripped and trim extras to strip off their clothes. Even before doing research, one can tell the video was shot in Los Angeles as no other city has an endless supply of skinny “background actors” willing to peel off their pants for the camera.

“All the Lovers” is the first single off of Minogue’s upcoming album Aphrodite, which will be the 42-year-olds 11th studio album. Arguably the biggest star to ever come from Australia, the singer burst on to the scene in 1987 with the wedding staple “The Loco-Motion.” Twenty-three years later Minogue is still going strong, even after a bout with breast cancer in 2005. Not many singers have this long of a career, especially imports from across the Pacific, so those new divas should take notes from this impressive performer.
