Mark Oliver Everett A Terrorist???

Ever since the war on terrorism started back in 2001, it seems everybody is a little too paranoid about certain types of people, and this is something we should all be concerned about.

On Monday, June 21st, Mark Oliver Everett, the frontman to the Eels, was harassed in London in Hyde Park, about being a terrorist. Everett, better known as E, was questioned by London Police regarding suspicious activity outside of a nearby embassy. The reason given for the harassment of the musician was because of his appearance, which consists of short hair and a burly beard. It’s alleged that he had matched the description of a man acting suspiciously outside of the embassy, which is why he was questioned by police. E, who was only taking a break from interviews at a nearby hotel, was released after explaining to the police that he was a rock musician, and identifying himself. Although it may just be a precaution due to a matched description, it’s still ridiculous that people can be stopped and questioned like this because of their looks. A supposed “terrorist” can look like anyone, and have any features, and it’s a shame that the media and the governments made Muslims a prime target, which would explain the typical thought of why a bearded man would be considered a suspect.

Besides the fact that terrorism was mainly created by the governments as an excuse to get what they want, according to many opinions, people have totally forgot the fact that terrorism has no look or prime suspect. Although I love this country, and the way we’re able to live, none of us are free to even look a certain way. Whether it be compared to discrimination of race, or even this case just a certain style, people will always suffer for looking how they want. Something that’s even more ridiculous is that people are in such a frenzy over all of this terrorism stuff, that they don’t even give certain people a chance to see what the deal really is. Maybe the so-called “suspicious person” was just standing in a certain area, and happened to scare a few people that have given in to this “terrorist” image. Hurting innocent people is never the right thing to do, and for that fact it’s obvious that people can’t ignore certain things, but sometimes people are on too high of an alert.
