In the latest controversy surrounding the actions of M.I.A., the outspoken rapper is now talking about how she feels that the C.I.A. runs websites such as Facebook and Google, to get the information they want from Internet users.
In an interview with Nylon magazine, the star warned fans and anyone using the Internet to be careful with how they use and what information they put in. She was quoted saying: “All governments are connected to Google. Governments can shift their search engines so only what they want you to see comes up. I want kids to be aware of these digital circumstances. Everyone on the Internet is like, ‘Oh my God, come and join Facebook!’ They’re all so optimistic… and really everyone is f*cking you up being the screens. And I don’t like that. It makes it difficult for me to interact with my fans knowing that. Google and Facebook were developed by the C.I.A., and when you’re on there, you have to know that.”
Although she’s not the first person to think this is how things are run, she’s one of the few celebrities that are actually speaking out about their beliefs. She makes a point, though, since common citizens really have no idea who’s running what. There are a lot of lies and cover-ups that we will sadly never be exposed to, but that’s just how it is, and everyone should be careful with the Internet anyways. Whether it’s the C.I.A. watching or some twisted hacker, information should protected as much as possible. M.I.A. could be a little weird at some times, but she makes us all think.
