Prince Says The Internet is DEAD

If Prince is correct, you may never read this post. In fact, there is a chance that it may never actually be written due to the fact that the research for the article was done on the Internet — something that according to Prince is on life support.

The “eclectic” performer was quoted in a newspaper, something people read before Web sites and Blogs, that the Internet was dead and that his new album would not be downloadable. If you want it, you’ll need to purchase it on CD at a Tower Records, Virgin Megastore, Circuit City, or Best Buy.

Prince told the Daily Mirror, “The Internet’s completely over. I don’t see why I should give my new music to iTunes or anyone else … all these computers and digital gadgets are no good. They just fill your head with numbers and that can’t be good for you.”

Prince may have seen The M110101A1001T1010011R1010101I1101011100X one too many times, or he may in fact be Neo himself. While Michael Jackson was preparing for his O2 Arena tour in England, Jackson refused to sleep — which eventually led to his overdose of anesthesia. The reason? Jackson told his choreographer that when he slept, God gave the ideas meant for MJ to Prince. Maybe this was one of those ideas God sent down to the artist formerly known as a symbol formerly known as Prince.

Or, he’s just pissed that iTunes doesn’t give him more money.

“[iTunes] won’t pay me an advance for it and then they get angry when they can’t get it,” Prince told the Mirror.

He also claimed that the Internet would meet a similar MTV demise. “The Internet’s like MTV. At one time MTV was hip and suddenly it became outdated.”

It takes giant purple balls for someone to say the Internet is “outdated” and turn around and only sell his album on CD in record stores that do not exist. In Prince’s defense, there is a good chance that he doesn’t know what the Internet actually is. This insistence that MTV — which exists on the Internet — can be compared to the entire Internet boggles the mind. Does Prince think that there is a limit to the Internet?

MTV failed in the music department because they realized that their 24-hour channel could make more money with reality television than with music videos. YouTube, in part, has succeeded because they took over the reigns as the medium of choice to release music videos along with millions of other amateur videos because there is no limit to what can be uploaded and viewed.

Prince has not been in touch with reality for a very long time. This is what happens to megastars. They either die young or go insane from becoming a recluse in a giant mansion. The interview is the first one Prince has done in 10-years, back when a 6-disc changer was advanced technology, Wi-Fi didn’t exist for the public, cell phones screens only showed text and numbers, roaming charges were a huge issue, Napster was the primary source of music for people (even those with dial-up modems), and no one had to take their shoes off at airport security.

No decade has had more innovation than the years between 2000 and 2009. Ironically, Prince’s new album is called “20TEN.” If there was only some way to find out when it was being released. Wouldn’t it be great if something like that existed? You could type or say any question — any question to anything, ever — and an answer would quickly pop up. Well, until then you’ll need to call your area record store — if one still exists. Just make sure to dial 1 before the rest of the number if the call is long distance from a landline. Long distance rates may apply.
