Tupac may have been tragically taken from us way too early, but his legacy is still making history. His song ‘Dear Mama’ is going to be one of 25 recordings that will be added into the Library of Congress’ National Recording Registry.
During his life, Tupac Shakur always knew he would become a legend, and his music is now indeed making history. This honorary induction shows that the song ‘Dear Mama’ meets the qualifications of the National Recording Preservation Board, by being “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant” which is obviously shown within the songs meaning. Tupac’s hit song will be joining a group of only 300 songs that have been chosen to be inducted, which is an incredible accomplishment. This isn’t the only honorable award earned by ‘Pac, since he owns a Guinness World Record for being one of the best-selling rap artists in the world with over 75 million albums sold, and still selling. Reuters reported that the NRPB called the song ‘Dear Mama’ a “moving and eloquent homage to both the murdered rapper’s own mother and all mothers struggling to maintain a family in the face of addiction, poverty and societal indifference.”
It’s sad to see that such great artists aren’t around to witness their achievements like this one, but it’s still a great thing for all the fans to see. If Tupac was never murdered, he would have recently turned 39, and it’s sure that he would still be producing such meaningful music that everyone loved. To many it might be considered rare for a rap artist to receive such an honor like this, but not many other rappers have ever portrayed the message Tupac has in his life, and even after his death. While most other rappers like to boast of the “gangster” things they’ve done and continued to do, Tupac talked about how he learned from it, and explained why certain people act certain ways. Even over the years since he’s been gone, he still influenced many people to overcome the lives that have been basically planned out for them due to their surrounding and circumstances while growing up. Many people even interpreted his “thug life” lifestyle as a negative thing, but he always had an explanation, and that particularly meant that he was living how he wanted to, not like a stereotypical “thug”, but as someone doing their own thing, how they wanted to do it.

As he has been for years since his death, ‘Pac will always be remembered for all the hope and positivity he brought to the lives of his fans, and everyone around him. I myself have looked up to Tupac for as long as I’ve been able to comprehend music. Not only did he stand up for everything he believed in, but he wasn’t afraid to voice any of it, and make all of his feelings public. It’s a shame that the world lost him the way we did, and so tragically before his time. But even he said himself, “only God can judge me”, and that showed in everything he did. At points it was him against the world, but ‘Pac never faltered. These are all clear reasons why he was loved so much, and why he is missed so much. No other rap artist could deserve such an honor as much as he did, and it’s very exciting to see it actually happen. You will always be remembered Tupac.
