One can only speculate if Usher is singing specifically about his upcoming divorce with his new leak “Guilty” featuring T.I., as he sings, “I swear to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth … I didn’t know it was killing this low, / In your honor she keep saying ain’t love her / Can’t say I ain’t try / But I guess my love wasn’t good enough.”
Sounds like his potential opening statement in his future divorce hearing with soon-to-be ex-wife Tameka Foster. Usher filed for divorce in 2009, and announces to the world that he is guilty — guilty of wanting to hang in the club, having a little fun and for girls showing him love.
He claims that he “did nothing to her, gave everything to her,” and that she accused him of cheating. Like any smooth-talking husband, Usher tells the judge that she must be crazy and that she’s making up stories in her mind. He then pleads to “don’t take me to jail” over and over again in the chorus.
Speaking of jail, T.I. is featured on the track fresh from serving his one-year sentence for weapons possession — a slightly bigger crime than the one Usher sings about.
T.I. (acting as Usher’s attorney?) raps an incoherent verse that seems to come to Usher’s defense by stating that the singer bought her nice cars, a huge ring and took her on Caribbean vacations so he must be monotonous. Not the best defense, as we all saw the giant diamond ring Kobe Bryant purchased for his wife after admitting to an extra-marital affair.
T.I. then raps, “I never been on bullsh*t, she ain’t caught me on no Tiger Woods sh*t,” calling out the now infamous cheater and proving that this song was recorded recently begging the question, “Did T.I. record this in prison?”
Although the song is decent with some nice rhythms, the lyrics will make or break this release depending on how forgiving Usher’s female fans are when it comes to his possible promiscuous ways.
